Generally
the standards of western society have fallen since world war 2. This has
affected people in different ways. For the majority life is very pleasant,
the standard of living is high. These people suffer only by such things
of fear of crime and a not-too-good medical service.
They suffer when their children get into trouble with crime, drugs,
sex, truancy, smoking.
There is also a vast number of people who have missed out on the
high standard of living. The poor, who are always with us despite high
social security payments, single parents, older teenagers and adults who
are homeless - by their own fault perhaps.
The spotlight can be shone on some aspects of life but there must
be many more that show problems in society.
Schools. Truancy is high. Behaviour in the classroom
often unmanageable. Government keeps adding new rules for teachers. Teachers
leave because of burnout or sickness because pressure is too high and the
fun of teaching gone.
Medical Service. Long waiting lists. Nurses leave the
profession because of poor management above them. Governments keep changing
the rules!
Commerce / Industry. People are expected to work at
a faster pace and longer hours. This does not mean they achieve more!
Management Training. In many
parts of Industry, Commerce, Schools, Hospitals, Government, and Councils
the management methods are poor, being carried out by poorly trained managers.

on this
Honesty. People have lost the basic honesty and
integrity that used to be the Englishman's bond.
Greed. There is an aura of 'get as much as you
can while you can'.
Moral Fibre. This seems to have gone from many
people and institutions.
Sex outside marriage. This has
caused family break up, divorce, unwanted children, delinquency, truency,
single parent homes, housing demand, social security payments etc.

When attacked on such points institutions will provide statistics
to prove otherwise. Lets' be wary of statistics. They can be made to prove
anything!
Why do they?
Change, at much expence, a much respected name like Royal Mail to
an insignificant name like Consignia? (Give them 2 years and they
will change it back, hopefully! Though I suppose that will cost even more..)
Allow the Royal Mail to have unfair competition and so see many
local post offices close down. Valuable institutions like the Post Office
and BBC should not have unfettered competition.
Make new safety rules for old peoples homes that they cannot comply
with so they close down. Result: more old people blocking beds
in hospitals.
Make teashop teapots with straight spouts so that they drip?
Cone off the road and then leave it with no work being done?
Widen the licensing hours when drink is an increasing social problem?
Why dont they?
Why dont they print the cooking time on the label when you buy
a joint of meat at a supermarket? (I know some do occasionally.)
Use school buses as they do in America? There the drivers
are regular so get to know the teenagers & develop relationships that
prevent vandalism.
Make the top of deodorant bottles flat so that they can be stood
on their heads to give up the last drop?
If you have some Why do they? Or Why dont they? do let
me know for possible includion!
The pace of life is speeding up! Is the world really turning faster?
